Look Around

Monday April 18, 2011               Look Inward                                    Read Psalm 139.
Examine your thoughts, attitudes, and feelings. Is there any bitterness, jealousy, anger, hostility, or unforgiveness in your life? Ask God to search your heart and reveal any sin in your life that you are unaware of. Ask God to show you areas where you sin as you go through the day today.  Spend more time confessing your sins than normal today.

Tuesday April 19, 2011               Look Outward                                Read James 2
What areas of your life are you neglecting to serve God by not serving others? What relationships  are strained or broken in your life that you need to work on? (Romans 12:18 so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.)
-          Call someone and apologize today.
-          Try and make a broken relationship right. (Mt 5:23-24)
-          Find at least one person to share the gospel with today.
Wednesday April 20, 2011    Look Backward                     Read Mark 15
As you think about Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection meditate on all that He accomplished on the cross. Think about all the prophesy that was fulfilled in Christ’s death. Meditate on the gospel that saves you. Spend extra time today in prayer thanking God for saving you. If you have time today, look up the terms “redeemed,” and “justified” as they pertain to the atonement. Spend time meditating on those terms as well.

Thursday April 21, 2011       Look Forward              Read 1 Corinthians 15
What was the greatest meal you ever ate? What made it so good? Who was with you when you ate it? One day we will dine with Jesus at the marriage feast in Heaven. (Revelation19:9) While I am sure the food will be good, what will be most spectacular is the company with which we will share the meal. Can you image eating and drinking in the physical presence of Jesus Christ? While we will be there with loved ones and saints from history past, our focus will not be on them. We will be focused on the Christ! As you pray today sing the old hymn “Holy, Holy, Holy”.  Think about each word and sing it from your heart directly to him. Also, I have included the lyrics to “The Communion Hymn”.  Spend some time today looking over the words. Think about each word and lyric. Meditate on the meaning of each word and the theological implications. See ya tonight at 6:00!

Behold The Lamb (Communion Hymn)
Words and Music by Keith and Kristyn Getty & Stuart Townend

Behold the Lamb who bears our sins away,
Slain for us – and we remember
The promise made that all who come in faith
Find forgiveness at the cross.
So we share in this bread of life,
And we drink of His sacrifice
As a sign of our bonds of peace
Around the table of the King.
The body of our Savior Jesus Christ,
Torn for you – eat and remember
The wounds that heal, the death that brings us life
Paid the price to make us one.
So we share in this bread of life,
And we drink of His sacrifice
As a sign of our bonds of love
Around the table of the King.
The blood that cleanses every stain of sin,
Shed for you – drink and remember
He drained death’s cup that all may enter in
To receive the life of God.
So we share in this bread of life,
And we drink of His sacrifice
As a sign of our bonds of grace
Around the table of the King.
And so with thankfulness and faith we rise
To respond, – and to remember
Our call to follow in the steps of Christ
As His body here on earth.
As we share in His suffering
We proclaim Christ will come again!
And we’ll join in the feast of heaven
Around the table of the King

Hope When There Appears To Be None

Sermon Notes for Sunday April 3, 2011
John 14:1-4
Hope When There Appears To Be None
·

  • When All Seems Hopeless, Keep The Faith!
o   Not just in God, But also in Jesus
o   This is not just belief in ‘a god.’ This is a belief in the Triune God. It is a belief in the full humanity and deity of Jesus Christ. He will tell his disciples in John 14:26 that the 3rd person of the Trinity will come from the Father in Jesus name.
o   Paul alluded to this same type of hope in Romans 4:18 when he said that Abraham had “hope against hope.” When their seems to be nothing to hope for or even in, Abraham trusted God. So to must the disciples then and us now.
o   Illustration:
§  When you fly in an airplane, you have no doubt that the airplane can land. However, your faith is not in the airplanes ability to land, but in the skill and training of the pilot to land the plane safely and in the desired location.
Jesus told his disciples that they are not to just have faith in god  (even the Yahweh) of the Old Testament. They were to have faith in Yahweh and Yahweh in Human form. To put it in modern terms, they were to trust in the person and work of Jesus Christ. That He was who He said He was, and He did what He said He was going to do.
  • Remember In Your Darkest Times That Our Hope Is Not In This World, But In The World To Come!
o   Jesus left to prepare a place.
o   Mansions or Dwelling Places? “μονή  -mone” LV= Mansiones Luther=apartment
§  John 14:23
o   Illustration:
§  Jewish Groom going away to build a home for his new bride.
o   Our hope is not in what this world has to offer, but in the fact that Jesus is preparing a place for us and is coming back for us!
o   Our assurance is that if Christ is preparing a place for us, he will also come back for us. It matters not what the world does to us or if we fail  in our mission as Peter will. What matters is are we hoping in Him!
  •     As You Go About Your Daily Life, Is Your Hope in This World? The Things Of This World? In The World To Come? Or Solely In The Person and Work of Jesus Christ?
o   The place isn’t the focus, it’s the illustration that the disciples/we are to keep our eyes on Jesus.
